Report: Spurs exploring move for manager they almost hired back in 2021
But! Football Club have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a potential move for Lille head coach Paulo Fonseca.
Fonseca, who parted ways with Roma after leading the club to a disappointing seventh-place finish in the Serie A in 2020-21, was one of the candidates the North London club spoke with before they appointed Nuno Espirito Santo in the summer of 2021 (Evening Standard).
The Athletic reported at the time that Spurs had even struck an agreement with the Portuguese coach on a two-year contract with the option of a third.
The publication explained that the move eventually collapsed since Fabio Paratici had disagreements with Fonesca over transfer policies and found the 50-year-old to have no clear plan regarding his backroom staff.
Fonseca took over as Lille’s head coach last summer and has done an admirable job at Stade Pierre Mauroy, with the club currently sitting in fifth place in Ligue 1.
But! Football Club have now asserted that the former Roma boss is attracting interest from the Premier League ahead of the summer, with Spurs, West Ham and Crystal Palace all said to be exploring moves for him.
The report asserts that Fonseca could even be the Hammers’ top target and explains that Lille might struggle to keep hold of the experienced coach.

Fonseca would tick a few boxes for Spurs as he plays attacking football and might be prepared to build a long-term project.
However, the appointment would certainly not signal ambition, which is why I doubt that the North London boss would consider talking to the 50-year-old.
