The year’s first lunar eclipse occurred late on Friday or Saturday depending on the location of the viewer, causing the Moon to dim only slightly as it passed within the outer part of the Earth’s shadow. It was visible from almost all of Europe, as far east as Japan and New Zealand’s South Island, and across to the west as far as Saudi Arabia, past the western coast of Africa, and southwards to Siberia. The next lunar eclipse in October will provide a better display with parts of North and South America, along with Asia, Africa, and Europe being able to see it.
