We live in one of UK’s poshest towns where Bridgerton’s filmed – we were horrified when we woke up to find shocking sign
LOCALS living in one of the UK’s poshest towns where Bridgerton is filmed were horrified when they woke up to find a shocking sign.
A huge grassy area which sits in front of 30 terraced houses was vandalised by pranksters.
As residents woke up this morning, they were met with the shocking sight of a huge penis etched onto the lawn of Bath‘s Royal Crescent.
It comes just one day before a coronation party is due to be held at the estate to celebrate the King’s crowning.
And while many were surprised to see the symbol, the majority of locals found it quite amusing.
One said they found it quite funny but did have concerns about how it would be repaired.
Joey Rossi, 39, said: “I initially found it quite funny but then kind of worried about how they’re going to repair it.
“I don’t know how you would do that with a lawn mower – it’s almost like they have killed the grass.
“It’s going to be difficult to repair.”
Caroline Carnus, 35, said the harmless fun is “hilarious”.
The stay-at-home mum, said: “I think it’s hilarious. Some people’s egos might not like it but no one gets hurt by it.
“Knowing that the guys living in those houses [Royal Crescent] get the best view of it for the next few weeks, that’s quite funny.
“When it was snowy last winter people drew it in the snow as well, but then that wouldn’t last as much as this.”
Bob Brown, 66, said: “It’s very Bath. We have a wide range of views expressed within this community.
“I certainly haven’t taken it seriously. I’m sure some people genuinely won’t be happy about it.
“I think it’s someone who has got a creative spark. They’ve expressed their creativity and it’s designed to fade away.”
Bath and North East Somerset Council confirmed the damage was done by weed killer.
A local university lecturer who asked not to be named said the people who look after gardens in Bath will be upset by it.
She said: “It is quite amusing. How they’ve done without anybody actually hearing or seeing I don’t know.
“It does look like it’s got some kind of chemical on it.
“I think that’s really sad actually because you see people looking after Bath and they are going to be upset by that.
“Is it an act of anarchy or was it wanton vandalism, or do the two go hand in hand?”
The council’s parks department were called in this afternoon to rip up the area affected in time for Saturday.
A workman said he was instructed to tear up the ground and re-seed it.
The streets of Bath were used to create Regency London in hit Netflix show Bridgerton.
And Royal Crescent itself was filmed in place of Grosvenor Square.
The 18th century garden attracts tourists every year after being set up in 2003.
