Linda Yaccarino replaces Elon Musk as CEO of Twitter
Elon Musk has appointed ex-NBCU executive Linda Yaccarino as Twitter’s CEO, confirming rumours from this week.
On Friday, Musk took to Twitter to announce the news that Yaccarino was replacing him as the head of the social media platform.
‘I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter!’ tweeted Musk.
The billionaire went on to explain that Yaccarino will focus primarily on business operations, while he takes care of product design & new technology.
‘Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app,’ said Musk.
On Thursday, Musk announced that he had hired a female CEO for Twitter while he transitions himself to other roles.
Earlier on Friday, the media veteran stepped down amid reports that she was Musk’s pick to lead Twitter. NBCUniversal said the executive was leaving, ‘effective immediately’, after 12 years with the media company. Musk’s tweet followed soon after.
The former head of advertising and partnerships for American media giant, NBCUniversal, is certainly qualified for the job with her experience of overseeing 2,000 workers on a team that has generated more than $100 billion in ad sales.
During her tenure, Yaccarino played a pivotal role in driving the company’s advertising strategies and forging partnerships with major advertisers.
Her appointment could help assuage the concerns of advertisers, many of whom have abandoned the social media platform after Musk took control.
The new CEO’s background primarily lies in the media and advertising industry rather than the technology sector. So, her appointment makes sense considering Musk plans to transform the social media platform into X.
