Connecticut man, 83, dies in Groton car crash
An 83-year-old Ledyard man was killed Saturday morning when his car went off a road in the Mystic section of Groton and hit a tree.
Alexander Lunny was driving a Chevrolet Malibu southbound on Shewville Road around 7:20 a.m. when he crossed into the northbound lane and slammed into a tree outside 160 Shewville Road, according to Groton police.
Police, the Old Mystic Fire Department, Mystic River Ambulance and paramedics from L&M ambulance and the Mohegan Tribal Fire Department were dispatched to help. An ambulance took Lunny to L&M Hospital, but he was pronounced dead there at 8:09 a.m., police said.
Lunny had lived at 147 Gallup Hill Road, Ledyard.
Investigators from the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit are still looking into what caused the crash. They ask anyone with information to call Groton police at 860-441-6712.
