THE Met Office has revealed the forecast for the spring bank holiday – and it’s set to be good news as Brits enjoy the sunshine on their day off.

As the country gets ready for the last three-day weekend in May, the weather service says sunny spells could be expected.

With the last two bank hols not being as warm as we would have liked, things could be changing as “high pressures dominate” much of the UK.

The Met said “a good deal of fine and dry weather” is expected as we reach the end of the month.

Warmer conditions are forecast from Tuesday and will feel slightly settled allowing for some enjoyable weather.

However, there is a small chance of rain in the run up to May 29.

The weather service said: “High pressure will dominate over most of the UK through the first half of this period, with settled conditions for most of the country.

“Exceptions to these settled conditions could develop in the northwest and the southeast, where there may be outbreaks of rain and drizzle at times.

“Winds will be light across the majority of areas but could be stronger at times in the far northwest and southeast.”

Despite this, brighter skies are coming as we enter the long weekend.

The Met Office added: “During the second half of this period, high pressure is expected to continue to lie across much of the UK.

“This is likely to extend over the southwest and northeast of the country bringing a return to more settled weather.

“This will bring a good deal of fine and dry weather for the majority of areas.”

In the run-up, this week will see temperatures rise with drizzly showers in some places.

Today will start off grey and cloudy before slight sunny spells break through later.

Friday will bring highs of 21C in some parts before temperatures drop tonight bringing in a slight grass frost.

Met meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: “As temperatures rise there’s always a chance of a shower or two affecting parts of the Midlands into East Anglia and the south of England – but these will be fairly isolated.

“For much of England, Wales, southern and eastern Scotland it’s a fine afternoon.

“But further south where we’ve got those brighter spells, it’s going to be a warm afternoon.

“High teens, 20C perhaps 21C.”

There is a chance of a “thunderstorm or two” around 4pm today but it will be “localised” as we move into evening.

And in Scotland and Northern Ireland “there is a colder night expected here with temperatures dipping enough to give a grass frost”.

Meanwhile, Saturday will see highs of 19C and 20C.

London is set to hit 20C at around 4pm on Saturday, while CardiffBirminghamBrighton and other parts of the country are set to sit just one degree lower.
