Berlin Turnpike gun store burglarized, several guns stolen

Several guns were stolen from a gun shop on the Berlin Turnpike during a burglary Saturday morning in Newington, police said.

An employee at Hoffman’s Guns for the Good Guys at 2686 Berlin Tpk. called the police at about 7:40 a.m. Saturday to report a robbery, according to the Newington Police Department.

An initial investigation led officers to believe that the suspect, or suspects, were still inside the store. The Newington Police Department Emergency Response Team was activated and a heavy police presence, including law enforcement officers in tactical gear, were on scene, police said.

Investigators learned that the suspect had fled the scene before police arrived. They determined that several guns and an unknown amount of cash were stolen from the store, police said.

Newington police were assisted by other first responders from the region, including the Newington Volunteer Fire Department who police said in a statement Saturday “provided resources that were crucial to the overall safety of the incident.”

Detectives were still on the scene Saturday afternoon and the investigation was ongoing.
