Police ID man killed when vehicle sped through traffic, struck parking garage in Stamford
Police have identified the man who was killed when he sped through multiple lanes of traffic and struck a support column for a parking garage Friday night in Stamford.
Police responded to 1266 East Main St. about 11:45 p.m. Friday to find a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder that had “suffered extremely heavy damage,” according to the Stamford Police Department.
Investigators found that the SUV was driving northbound on Houston Terrace when it drove across all lanes of traffic on East Main Street at a high rate of speed until it struck a support column for a parking garage, police said.
The driver and sole occupant, identified later as 47-year-old Hector Ricardo Rivera-Salazar of Stamford, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured in the crash, police said.
