Ahead of the May 10 assembly polls, the Congress had promised free supply of 200 units of electricity a month to households, `2,000 monthly dole to families led by women, 10 kg of free rice to low-income families, free bus travel for women and a monthly stipend to unemployed graduates and diploma holders. At Monday’s meeting, the energy department estimated that it would need about `12,038 crore this year to give 200 units of free power to 21.4 million families.
