Report: Two managerial candidates are gaining ‘momentum’ for Spurs job
The latest report on Tottenham Hotspur’s lengthy search for a new manager has put forward two names who could become strong contenders this week – Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi.
Tottenham have been without a permanent manager since the end of March when Antonio Conte left the club.
Cristian Stellini replaced him as interim manager, but only lasted four games before Ryan Mason took over as Acting Head Coach.
Multiple names have been linked with the vacancy in the meantime, and many have fallen by the wayside, often distancing themselves from the position.
Feyenoord manager Arne Slot appeared to be in line for the role until late last week, when it emerged he would be staying in the Netherlands next season (Dan Kilpatrick).
It’s back to the drawing board for the Spurs hierarchy now, but a fresh report from the Daily Mail claims two managers with connections to Brighton and Hove Albion are now coming forward as potential frontrunners.
Graham Potter, who has been out of work since he was dismissed by Chelsea after just eight months at the club, is now thought to be back on Tottenham’s radar.
The former Brighton and Chelsea boss is believed to be more of a “collaborator with rather than a fighter of chairman,” and it is suggested his “unique brand of sanity” could help to stabilise Tottenham.
Despite the tumultuous time at Chelsea, the report claims Potter’s reputation as “one of the best coaches” is still intact.
Alongside Potter, Spurs remain interested in the man who replaced him at Brighton, De Zerbi.
However, it currently “seems unlikely” that De Zerbi would move on given his positive relationship with his employers.
The Lilywhites are not giving up yet, though, as De Zerbi “fits everything Levy wants at the club.”
Spurs Web Opinion
We need to give up on De Zerbi as he is not going anywhere now that he has achieved what he has at Brighton. Potter is an option I am not against at all.
He had a torrid time at Chelsea, but anyone would have struggled there, and I would love to see what he could do for us.
