$13 Walmart T-shirt From 'Succession' Finale Sells Out Online
HBO's hit series Succession wrapped up its four-season run this week, and the general consensus seems to indicate that show creator Jesse Armstrong and company beautifully stuck the landing. In fact, fans were so hyped about the series finale that some wanted a piece of it for themselves. But while many of the garments feature din the show are expensive, one $13 T-shirt that Roman Roy wears in the final episode is from Walmart, and it quickly sold out online.
The youngest of the Roy siblings, portrayed by Kieran Culkin, is seen wearing the blue T-shirt with striped sleeves in Barbados, where he flees after getting roughed up in the post-election riot in New York City that he essentially caused. The casual look isn't typical of Roman's usual attire, suggesting that he may have found it after arriving at his mother's estate—presumably having not adequately packed for the trip.
According to the Succession Fashion Instagram account, the shirt is a Wonder Nation brand boys color block T-shirt; part of a two-pack that retails for $13.96. Or it normally does, anyway, because both styles are now sold out online.

But because nothing on Succession is accidental—fashion included—there are theories that the child's shirt (poor Kieran) was a nod to Roman finally coming to terms with his tumultuous childhood. GQ even makes the case for the character being the real winner of the series—as the final shot of Roman (SPOILER ALERT) sipping a martini suggests that he's finally free from the burden of taking over the family empire.
"In psychology, this state is sometimes called ‘individuation,' when a person matures beyond their persona and the identities of others (often, family) that are holding them back and becomes a fully realized human with a clear sense of their place in the world," the author argues. "You can’t really get there without processing your past. Roman’s little boy T-shirt, then, was symbolic of him confronting his childhood and becoming at peace with it, undertaking the painful growth required to approach something like happiness."
That may be a lot to read into a $13 Walmart T-shirt, but Succession fans are never likely to stop speculating. In the meantime, look out for the restock.
