Moment car hits and launches off tow truck ramp and crashes into moving vehicle

A woman was seriously injured after her car struck and launched off the back of a tow truck into the air and appeared to crash down on another vehicle on a highway.

Police bodycam footage captured the shocking moment that the car flew 120 feet and came down on Highway 84 near Valdosta, Georgia.

A Lowndes County Sheriff’s deputy was tending to a crash on the opposite side of the highway and turned around to observe a car driving up the tow truck ramp at full speed.

The car shot up over the top of the cab of the truck and flipped, then hit another vehicle.

Bodycam footage shows the deputy running toward the car. Debris is left strewn across a grassy area by the highway.

The driver was a 21-year-old woman from Tallahassee and sustained serious injuries from the airborne accident, WCTV reported. She was rushed to South Georgia Medical Center and is expected to survive.

Sheriff’s officials attempted to speak with the woman about the incident but her injuries prevented her from talking, according to ABC 11.

The woman’s identity was not immediately released.

It was not known what caused the accident that the deputy initially responded to.

The unusual accident last week drew attention to the state’s Move Over Law which requires drivers to decrease their speed and move over one lane when passing emergency vehicles including tow trucks. Violators may be slapped with a $500 fine and have three points taken off their driver’s license. More than two dozen US states have such laws.

It happened about a month after a car flew off a road and through the second story of a home that was built next to a turn coming off a long straight road. The driver also sustained severe injuries and survived.

Meanwhile, the elderly homeowners in in Colfax, California, were left homeless due to the degree of damage to the house.
