The Repair Shop viewers left ‘petrified’ and ‘freaked out’ by puppet’s restoration
FANS of The Repair Shop got a fright when tuning in to watch their favourite artefact renovation show this week.
Jay Blades and The Repair Shop specialists are used to fixing and restoring a wide array of items, but a little guest on yesterday’s show (June 14) sent shivers down onlookers’ backs.
Alison Gunn-Robson visited the workshop and brought with her George, a ventriloquist dummy.
Bringing the dummy, who had a chipped-away face and messy hair, out of her bag, she recounted how she came into possession of George.
As a gift from her aunt when she was 11, she revealed that George was made in 1898 and that he looked his age.
Looking closer at the dummy and what needed fixing, Jay felt a bit “freaked out” by the dummy’s eyes, and he wasn’t the only one.
A scared viewer said: “OK, George is just freaking me out now”.
Lost for words, another simply said: “George. Petrifying #TheRepairShop.”
“I’m not sure I’d want to bring George back to life #therepairshop,” an onlooker questioned.
A viewer said: “Sorry, but George belongs on the bonfire #therepairshop,” with another adding: “Bloody hell. George on @TheRepairShop is as creepy AF.”
A freaked-out fan said: “Nah, sorry…George can f**k off. That thing will harvest your organs while you sleep.”
Alison revealed that she used to entertain her school during intervals at school plays and that the “cheeky chappy” helped her through a “bad time”.
As someone with dyslexia, she found herself to be shy and had an inferiority complex while at school, but with George, she could “talk freely and with confidence”.
The entire Repair Shop team were needed to fix George, but by the end of the episode, both Alison and her puppet were beaming as they left the workroom.
The Repair Shop airs on BBC One on Wednesdays at 8pm.
