Schoolboy, 14, dies after getting into difficulty while swimming in river in tragedy which killed pal, 15
A SCHOOLBOY has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in a river during a tragedy which saw his pal killed.
The 14-year-old boy sadly passed away during the early hours of Thursday morning after he got into trouble in Cumbria‘s River Eden.
Cops confirmed the tragedy this evening after Lewis Michael Kirkpatrick, 15, died last month in the same incident.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on May 26 where the teens had to be pulled from the river.
It’s understood two other boys were part of the group, but one managed to swim to safety and another was rescued by a member of the public.
The younger teen, who hasn’t been named yet, had been airlifted to hospital before being pronounced dead today.
A file is now being prepared for the coroner.
Lewis’ parents Nichola and Paul previously described their boy as always having a “cheeky and infectious smile”.
The heartbroken family said: “Lewis was the baby of the family and his death has left a gaping hole that can never be filled.
“Lewis was a loving son, brother of Kyle and Nathan, grandson, nephew, cousin, uncle, friend, and boyfriend of Kiara.”
The family added: “We don’t want any other families to suffer the same, awful loss.”
