The remnant of cyclone Biparjoy is expected to bring rain over parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh starting Sunday, and help the monsoon advance over east India, meteorologists said. The monsoon's progress has remained slow since May 11 but the cyclone has impacted the southwest monsoon current. The Indian Meteorological Department has emphasised that not all El Nino years result in bad monsoon years and that India is expected to get normal rainfall during the southwest monsoon season despite El Nino conditions.
