Miramar woman arrested months after intentionally running victim over, warrant says
A Miramar woman accused of intentionally running a man over in Hollywood texted the victim moments before he was killed that he was high and needed help, an arrest warrant released Friday said.
Phone records and surveillance video from late night to early morning hours on March 13 and March 14 helped lead to the arrest three months after the killing. Nadeline Massenat, 24, was arrested Wednesday on one count of premeditated murder stemming from the death of Luis Armando Ortiz, 36, in Hollywood.
Massenat is accused of intentionally driving off the road in a Honda SUV and running Ortiz over shortly before 5:30 a.m. on March 14 near the Cathy & Bob Anderson Park in the 5800 block of Thomas Street, where the two had been together before Ortiz was killed, according to an arrest warrant.
After Massenat left the road, hit a stop sign and ran Ortiz over on the sidewalk, she drove forward, dragging his body 500 feet before he was left in the road, the warrant said. The SUV sped off, leaving a black rubber gasket behind in the grass.
Ortiz left his home at 10:30 p.m. March 13 and told a friend he was meeting up with a girl, the warrant said. He had been texting a phone number later identified as Massenat’s since 9 p.m.
Massenat and Ortiz were texting about “getting high and chilling” that night, and Massenat went to pick him up at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino about 12:30 a.m., according to the warrant. Phone records showed the two were together from then until the murder about five hours later.
The two arrived in the area near the park in Hollywood shortly before 4 a.m. and an argument over money followed, the warrant said.
A woman was heard in the surveillance footage saying, “You called me and I picked you up!” the warrant said. A witness sleeping in the park told detectives their arguing, lasting several minutes, woke him up.
The next text messages included in the warrant were sent just moments before Ortiz was killed.
“Enjoy the dope you took,” Ortiz texted at 5:12 a.m.
“Whatever you’re an a******, your (sic) ticking high asf bro u need help,” Massenat replied, according to the warrant.
She then ran Ortiz over seconds later, the warrant said.
In late May when detectives surveilled the SUV, it still had significant damage, matching what they saw in surveillance video of Ortiz being run over, the warrant said. Detectives took the vehicle from Massenat and her family’s Miramar home under a search warrant days later and found it was missing one of its rubber gaskets, which matched the one left behind at the crime scene.
Massenat’s attorney information was not available Friday afternoon. She is currently held in the Paul Rein Detention Facility without bond.
She was arrested in May 2022 on drug possession charges, court records show.
