Three injured after giant marquee collapses in Southampton park as witnesses hear screams for help
THREE people are injured after a huge marquee collapsed in Southampton.
Witnesses heard a man’s screams for help as the vast structure crashed down in Mayflower Park at around 9am this morning.
An eyewitness said they were walking along when the marquee “suddenly” collapsed with a loud “bang”.
They told the Daily Echo: “Several workers ran out of the way.
“Then I saw a man lying on his side crying out and several people ran over.”
Three people are confirmed to have sustained minor injuries following the incident.
The Echo reports a police car has left the scene but ambulances remain on the site.
Pictures from the park, which sits on the water’s edge near to Southampton Port, shows the frame in a heap on the ground.
The structure had been in place for the Seawork marine exhibition, which ran from June 13-15.
A South Central Ambulance spokesperson told The Sun: “We currently have one ambulance and two rapid response vehicles at the incident and the team are assessing three patients who have sustained minor injuries.”
The Sun has approached Hampshire Constabulary for comment.
