The five steps to get rid of grotty mould from your washing machine – and all you need are two 30p products
YOUR washing machine can get pretty dirty if you don’t clean it properly.
But don’t worry, you can get rid of mould and mildew using five simple steps.
According to the appliance experts at RGBDirect it’s easy enough to keep your washing machine in tip top condition, and you don’t have to spend a fortune on cleaning products either.
They told Express.co.uk what you need to know.
The detergent dispenser
Gross germs can linger in the detergent dispenser, so it’s important to clean it out often.
To do this, the pros suggested removing it and giving it a wash in warm water mixed with soap.
Just make sure it’s fully dry before popping it back into your machine.
The drum
There are loads of products out there you can use to clean the drum of your washing machine, but the experts said equal parts of vinegar and baking soda will do the job.
Simply pour the mix into the drum and run a cycle with hot water for the longest option.
” The vinegar and baking soda will help remove any mould, mildew and odour buildup,” the experts said.
The door and seal
After the drum and drawer are clean it’s time to tackle the door and seal.
Lots of grime and mould can hide in the rubber seal, so use a cloth to get into any ridges or hidden gaps.
“Pay attention to the folds and crevices where mould and mildew can accumulate,” the pros noted.
The filter
The fourth step is to clean the filter, which prevents lint, tissues and other rubbish from getting to the machine’s pump.
You can do this using a brush or by just running under warm water.
And if you’re not sure how to access your filter always double check your manual.
Rinse
After cleaning the different parts of your machine running a rinse cycle will help remove anything you missed, as well as any left over cleaning products.
Then leave the door open to prevent mould and mildew from forming.
The experts said: “You should be aiming to keep on top of this by cleaning it at least once every one to three months to keep it running efficiently.”
