But he’s also produced records for huge music names including the likes of CeeLo Green and Lana Del Rey.
He stunned fans last night with his new look – as The Black Keys performed at London’s O2 Arena.
Sporting a more groomed appearance, Dan had his beard neatly trimmed and his short greying hair combed back from his face in a side parting.
He also donned glasses with a stylish thick black frame.
Blues rock band The Black Keys was originally formed in the city of Akron in Ohio.
Dan first met drummer Patrick Carney, 43, when they were children around the age of nine.
Their start came when they had a demo-recording session in Carney’s basement after they started jamming together in 1996.
The music that came from the session was sent to several record labels before the band signed to indie label Alive.
They rose to prominence in the noughties as one of the most popular garage rock bands during the second wave of the revival of the genre.
The duo released their debut album in 2002, The Big Come Up which earned them a new deal with the independent label Fat Possum Records.
They subsequently released four more albums, Thickfreakness (2003), Rubber Factory (2004), Magic Potion (2006) and Attack & Release (2008).
This was before their mainstream breakthrough in 2010 with the album Brothers, which included their three time Grammy Award winning single Tighten Up.
Their follow up El Camino achieved similar success, peaking at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and it won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
The lead single Lonely Boy, was released in October 2011 and won the Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song at the 2013 Grammy’s ceremony.
Turn Blue, the eighth studio album from the pair, was released in 2014 and was their first number one album.
