The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thursday 22nd June) - Takeover imminent?
Good Morning. It's Thursday 22nd June, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Takeover imminent?
Weeks of uncertainty could well be over, after it was reported that the EFL are all set to grant 49ers Enterprises permission to complete the takeover of Leeds Utd!
Although negotiations for the sale were formalised several weeks ago, it seems to have taken an age for the football authorities to conclude their due diligence checks. According to the BBC, The EFL has recently introduced new, tougher regulations for their Owners and Directors, but finally the green light has been given. This should allow the club to name Sam Allardyce's successor, and finally start preparing for next season, which starts in 44 days. A statement read...
Football Insider has been informed by sources that both parties have finalised all takeover details and the EFL have completed the process and green-lighted the deal, which is now set to be completed imminently.
Vieira new favourite for Elland Road hot seat
Patrick Vieira is the new favourite for the Elland Road hot seat, after overnight developments saw bookies slash their odds on the former Crystal Palace gaffer to as low as 'Evens'.
The Leeds board are conducting their final round of interviews this week, with a decision expected either this weekend, or early next week, but it very much looks like a two horse race between the Frenchman and Daniel Farke (9/4).
It seems like Farke has been leading the race for an eternity, and even though he's still well clear of the chasing pack (Graham Potter 12/1, Raul 16/1 and Scott Parker 16/1), the impetus is very much with Vieira as the candidates reach the finishing straight. This cannot happen fast enough, with players reporting back for pre-season training in little over a week!
Summerville wants out of ER
Rumours have surfaced that Crysencio Summerville has told Leeds he wants to quit Elland Road this Summer following relegation to the Championship; with former club Feyenoord leading the way for his signature. The explosive winger, 21, joined the Whites in the Summer of 2020 for just £1.5m following a major dressing room bust-up at the De Kuip, but three years on, it looks like all has been forgiven!
The Dutch Champions, now under the leadership of Arne Slot (since 2021) are big fans of 'Jimmy', and are prepared to pay £12m to have him back; yet Leeds want quite a bit more. According to Dutch media outlet '1908.nl', Summerville has a release clause of £20m, and with three years left on his contract, Leeds are in the driving seat.
