Staff of Fabric evacuated the club following a medical emergency in the early hours[/caption]Despite efforts by paramedics, the man in his 30s died at the scene at Fabric in Farringdon, Central London, at 2am.
One clubber said: “The club closed suddenly, with everyone escorted out.
“Later, the door staff said someone had died and nobody was allowed near the club.”
Police are treating the death as “unexpected”.
The 1,600-capacity Fabric opened in 1999 but was closed in 2016 after the deaths of two men.
Despite police calling the club a “safe haven” for drugs, a judge later ruled it could reopen.
Celebrity backers included DJ Fatboy Slim, Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams and Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw.
But Superintendent Stuart Ryan, of Islington Police, said at the time: “Fabric nightclub represents a serious risk to its patrons.
“The failings of the management have led to an environment where illegal drug taking has become acceptable.
“If the premises are permitted to remain open and operating in its current form, then there is a strong possibility that further drug-related deaths will occur.”
A judge ruled it could reopen five months later under new licensing terms which barred under 19s at weekends.
Club bosses promised a “zero tolerance” approach to drugs and claimed they had added a string of new safety measures.
