I’m an ex-Primark worker… here’s how we made sure shoppers didn’t steal
A FORMER Primark worker has revealed how cashiers at the store make sure shoppers don’t steal.
Georgia Pontin, 23, from Northamptonshire, shared her insider knowledge in a TikTok clip.
She said: “If someone’s buying a handbag or purse, we had to check it.
“We had to open it up and physically check what was inside – because people think they can hide stuff in them.
“If we were on tills and found something in the bag when we checking it, we were not allowed to go ‘Oh, are you stealing this?’
“We had to say ‘Do you want this too?’ If they really want it, they’ll say yeah.
“But if they’ve been caught, most of the time they’ll act as though they didn’t know it was in there.
Georgia added: “Sometimes it’s a complete accident and people don’t actually know there’s something in the bag.
“But we do have to check in case someone’s actually trying to steal something.
“Whenever I was on the tills and had to ask someone that, then I would think they were stealing – but that’s just me.”
People were shocked by Primark insider Georgia’s revelations.
Mark said: “It’s mad. Primark is the cheapest place for fashion and people still nick stuff.”
Sonny said: “In my store we just know the regular thieves and intercept before they even get to the till.
“I’ll follow them around until they feel uncomfortable and just walk out and give up.”
Chelsea said: “This happened to me. I picked up a bag from the floor and it had jewellery in it.
“I was mortified when the girl at the till asked me about it.”
