I’m an interior designer and here’s three things making your bathroom tacky – don’t get me started on shower curtains
A LUXURY interior designer has revealed the three mistakes that many people make in their bathrooms – which instantly make their space look tacky.
So if you want a bathroom that’s sure to leave your guests open-mouthed (in a good way), then you’ll want to listen up and take notes immediately.
Bilal Rehman explained that matching sets, patterned shower curtains and small bath mats are three big no nos – so if you have any of these in your home, prepare to be attacked.
Bilal took to TikTok, where he posts under the username @bilalrehmanstudio, to share his thoughts.
He posted his clip with the caption ‘Things I would NEVER do in my bathroom’, as he revealed what to avoid if you want to elevate your space.
He said: “First we have to talk about matching furniture sets – now, I can’t even believe that I have to talk about matching soap sets – absolutely not, I don’t care if it was 50 cents in Ikea.
“That s**t is ugly. No matching sets. Period.
“Your soap pump doesn’t need to match the tray, which doesn’t need to match the toothbrush holder, which doesn’t need to match the trash can.
“Everything needs its own voice – it needs to look collected and curated.”
Following this, Bilal slated printed shower curtains, as he added: “Now onto shower curtains – there is no reason in 2023 for you to have a printed shower curtain.
“Just because your shower curtain has fish on it, does not mean you’re in Cancun.
“That is tacky and ugly.
“Instead, opt for something that is see-through and if you don’t want people seeing your t**s in the shower, then get something that is a solid fabric – it’s gonna look way cleaner and much more contemporary.
“And don’t forget, just like your regular curtains, to take that s**t from the floor to the ceiling – it’s going to make that small bathroom of yours, that much bigger.”
Finally, Bilal revealed that he is not a fan of small bath mats, as he explained: “Stop with these little a** mats.
“Instead, opt for one long runner. It’s going to make your bathroom feel way bigger and give that elevated bathroom look.”
At the time of writing, the clip was posted just a day before, but it had clearly left many open-mouthed, as it had quickly racked up a whopping 285,000 views.
It had 35.4k likes, 117 comments, 3,828 saves and 177 shares.
Many social media users agreed with Bilal and lots were eager to get on board with his advice.
One person said: “I’ve been saying this for years but my parents could never get behind it!!!!”
Another added: “Ok throwing away some things now.”
A third commented: “I like the long rug idea.”
