Report: Spurs are now actually ‘in talks’ with club over a transfer fee for target
Tottenham Hotspur appear to be working hard to secure the signing of James Maddison, and talks are continuing between the North London club and Leicester City over a transfer fee for the 26-year-old.
Spurs have long held an interest in Maddison, and the playmaker has recently been earmarked as a ‘priority’ target for new Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou this summer (Telegraph).
Newcastle United had also been linked with the England international, but a recent report from the Guardian suggested the Magpies had cooled their interest in Maddison due to their pursuit of AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali.
According to a report in the Northern Echo on June 19, Tottenham held a significant advantage in the race to sign Maddison due to his desire to move to London and the fact the Lilywhites can offer him higher wages than Newcastle.
Fabrizio Romano recently offered an update on the pursuit of the Leicester City star, suggesting Spurs would ‘push again’ for Maddison next week.
Talks in progress between Spurs and Leicester
Now, the latest from talkSPORT has an update on the situation it is believed Tottenham are now in talks with Leicester to settle on a transfer fee for Maddison.
Apparently, Maddison is now a “certainty” to leave Leicester this summer. It is thought the Foxes value their star man at £50 million.
The report claims it “may be Spurs who land” Maddison despite the interest from Newcastle, and it is revealed “talks are continuing” between the North London outfit and Leicester as negotiations “over a price” develop.

Obviously, we should try to negotiate a better price for Maddison, but I would still say £50 million is about right for a player of his calibre.
We shouldn’t take too long with this one as there’s no doubt other teams will still be keeping a close eye on Maddison’s availability.
