I found a ‘genius’ hack to transform an IKEA bookshelf into a hidden kitchen feature and it only takes minutes to do
A DIY guru has shared his nifty hack to turn an IKEA bookshelf into a rolling feature in the kitchen and everyone is saying the same thing.
There can never be too much storage in a home and after finding a nifty gadget online, one person managed to turn a classic IKEA buy into a rolling cupboard.
Taking to social media, the man first showed off his built GERSBY bookshelf, which can be purchased online for £35.
He then showed off a product from Amazon called ‘Washing Machine Base with Brake, Movable Adjustable Base’.
Costing just £26, this product can be attached to the bottom of refrigerators, washing machines and much more to let the appliance roll out smoothly.
He then assembled this together before attaching it to the bottom of the IKEA bookshelf.
Following this, he produced a metal handle, which he stuck a piece of tape to in order to mark where he would need to drill holes.
Once done, he secured it to the long, vertical side of the bookshelf and finally slotted it into an empty space next to the fridge.
He then demonstrated its function by pulling it out of its slot, revealing an assortment of spices lined on several shelves.
There were also jars of pasta and two large boxes full of garlic, onions and apples at the bottom.
“Love it,” he wrote in the caption, followed by two heart emojis and people agreed as they flocked to the comments section to praise the clever idea.
One person simply wrote the word “genius” in response to the video as another agreed: “That is 75 levels of genius. Wow.”
Another shared: “I’m impressed and inspired,” followed by a celebration hands emoji and a 100 emoji.
A fourth said it was the “coolest thing I’ve ever seen!”
And a fifth added: “Omg! This is brilliant! I already have those wheels.”
Some, however, issued a word of warning to those who want to try the hack out for themselves as one person said: “Great….but won’t the heat from the fridge spoil the condiments?”
Another said: “Ok but things will just fly off that thing constantly. Also the space next to a fridge is constantly warm, so most of that will spoil faster.”
And a third chimed: “Apart from the heat ruining the food, those shelves will sag in no time”.
