I built a DIY privacy fence extension – people say it’s an eyesore for the neighbors but they didn’t want to pay half
A HOME renovation enthusiast has built a private fence extension that people online said is an eyesore for some.
The design project took up a lot of space and attention, which may be distracting for the neighbors who didn’t want to pay half.
Element Greenery Designs (@elementgreenery) creates artificial garden walls to add to any privacy fence.
They save water and add an outdoorsy vibe to any home.
In a TikTok video, the content creator pinned a viewer’s comment at the top left, which inquired about their neighbors.
“I’m pleased both sides are done, but I pity the neighbor that doesn’t have the funds…Sorry, but I think it’s not the nicest for them,” it read.
The video showed a backyard privacy fence, where half was covered in the DIY shrubbery design and the other half was the neighbor’s wooden fence wall.
They explained in the video that when a fence requires an extension for privacy purposes that are within the height code, they “always speak to the neighbor to get agreement.”
They also added that they ask them if they want their side covered in the greenery.
To finance the home transformation project, they said that they “often use off-cuts from the original project where there is low to no cost.”
If there is an additional cost to their neighbor’s side, they divulged that the original customer usually agrees to pay for it.
Toward the end of the video, the design company showed images of the complete artificial greenery wall from both sides.
There were many additional questions and concerns in the comment section of the video.
“What if the neighbor says no? Is the whole thing canceled?” a TikTok user asked.
“No, as the project is one of the owner’s boundaries. It is nice to get the neighbor to agree to maintain peace,” they replied.
“I’d be happy with that if I was the neighbor. Looks great,” a viewer shared.
“Renovating our backyard. These look great,” another added.
“Absolutely love this! Where did you buy/get the artificial plant for this? Any advice would be appreciated,” a fan chimed in.
