I refuse to spend money on anything but food – I sleep on a bed of Styrofoam and spent a total of £15 furnishing my home
DESPITE living in a spacious home, one man has refused to furnish it and instead spends all of his money towards food.
Ron explained that he’s a “foodie” as he rummaged around his fully equipped kitchen.
“I love everything to do with food,” he said. “I think people can enjoy a foodie lifestyle on a cheap budget.”
“Every dollar we spend on anything other than food is a waste,” he went on before taking his frying pan, in which there were scrambled eggs, and sitting on his empty living room floor.
Ron explained that he got his apartment several years prior and simply didn’t see the need to spend money on any furniture.
“I’m a floor guy. I sit on the floor and it’s very comfortable,” he shared. “I mean it’s just tossing money into the trash receptacle – that’s what I think of furniture.”
The scene then changed to him in his kitchen where he began opening up a cardboard box, out of which he pulled a metal pot.
“I worked for a cookware company that always puts on displays, presentations,” he said. “And what happens is a lot of manufacturers send me samples of their product.”
Placing the pot into the sink, he then took the box into what appeared to be his bedroom.
On the floor, there were four wooden beams put together in the shape of a bed, but no mattress to be seen.
Lifting the cover, he revealed a pile of Styrofoam peanuts and added the ones that came in the box into it.
“So what I did was I found some two by fours and these are Styrofoam peanuts,” he explained to TLC. “So I just take all the peanuts, throw them in there, and then I cover it up with bubble wrap and then this is a tablecloth, and it makes a perfect bed.”
A voiceover then explained: “The average cost to furnish a one bedroom house is $2,000 (£1,573), and clothing expenses for a single professional can reach $400 (£315) a year.
“Ron spends a total of $20 (£15) decking out both his house and his closet.”
Moving to his wardrobe, he revealed that he has three T-shirts and two pairs of shorts.
“And by the way, I own no underwear and no socks,” he added.
The video, which was posted on TikTok user @tlc..uk’s account and the official YouTube channel, racked up thousands of views and comments.
“Imagine him on moving day, takes him 5 minutes to pack,” one person wrote.
Another said: “People literally give old furniture away”.
While a third chimed: “You can literally find furniture for free that people are giving away WHY”.
And a fourth joked: “look bruh.. I’m good with him. at least he’s not washing his toilet paper or sharing a bath with his siblings.. leave him alone. lol”.
