Radio Tyneside gets charity donation of £50,000 to go digital

Newcastle-upon-Tyne Hospitals Charity has presented a donation of £50,000 to Radio Tyneside to help the station go digital.

The handover happened during a party on Saturday evening to celebrate Chairman Dave Nicholson’s 50th anniversary with the station.

As part of the evening, their President, itv presenter Ian White, did a talk in with Dave in which he looked back at the past 50 years and how many people had at one time worked for the station who had gone on to make careers in the media.

At the end of the talk, Ian asked what were the plans for the future for the Station. Dave explained that they would like to move to digital and that it was estimated that to completely refurbish the studios would cost around £50,000.

Ian then introduced John Goodman from the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Charity who said that he had always been impressed by the work the volunteers did and that the members of the Charity had met and agreed to present the station with a cheque for £50,000 to complete the work to digital.

Chairman, Dave Nicholson said that he was blown away with donation and said that they would be able to start the work need a lot earlier than they expected.

Apart from all the current volunteers attending a few from over the years were present including Paul Robinson, Tamsin Robson from BFBS, and Max Hill who is now the Director of Public Prosecution.
