That's what he says but isn't it commonly acknowledged that Matlock was derided by the band (certainly by Lydon)? Whether it be liking The Beatles (Maclaren), always washing his feet (Jones) or wanting to turn the band into the Bay City Rollers (Lydon), Matlock was the butt of their jokes. Even if he did leave on his terms, I doubt any of them lost any sleep over it. Irrespective of whether he could play or not, Sid was always the better fit when it came to image. Matlock was the odd one out and they all knew it.
