Journalist claims Spurs are ready to pay double what others have reported for target

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to spend £10 million to sign Clement Lenglet from Barcelona according to Rudy Galetti, a fee twice as high as previously reported.

After a solid, albeit unremarkable season-long loan at Spurs in the 2022/23 campaign, Lenglet is back with his parent club but appears to have no future with Barcelona.

A report from Sport.es has revealed that Barcelona are desperate to sell Lenglet this summer as part of a financial proposal they made to La Liga last year. 

The Catalan club are eager to get a deal done by the end of June and both Barcelona and Tottenham have been working hard to ensure that deadline is met according to Mundo Deportivo. That same report cited a £5 million price tag for the Frenchman.

However, the saga is still ongoing and Lenglet remains in Spain for now.

Spurs could pay £10 million for Lenglet

While that £5 million fee has been corroborated by multiple reports out of Spain, a new twist has emerged due to fresh comments from Rudy Galetti.

He told GiveMeSport: “Talks are ongoing between Tottenham and Barcelona for Clement Lenglet. The Spurs, after his experience on loan, would spend around £10 million to sign the centre-back again, but in this case on a permanent deal.”

It remains to be seen whether Galetti’s remarks are indicative of how much Tottenham will have to pay to sign Lenglet, or whether he is simply suggesting the North London side would be happy to go that high in order to get the deal done.

Clement Lenglet is a player we should only be signing if we can get him for a heavily reduced fee.

He is a good defender who could be very useful in our squad, but we should not pay more than £5 million for him, especially given his extremely high wages.
