Marjorie Taylor Greene tells ATF hearing: 'Strict gun laws actually create murder'
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) claimed on Monday that gun safety laws "actually create murder."
Greene made the remarks at a field hearing in Florida about the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The event was chaired by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
During her opening statement, Greene noted that 11 people had died from gunshot wounds in Chicago on Memorial Day weekend.
"Did you see the Democrat pundits on television screaming their heads off about mass shootings in Chicago?" she asked. "No, you didn't hear a thing about it, and they don't dare report it. Why is that?"
"Because it tells the truth that every single American knows," the lawmaker continued. "It tells the truth that strict gun laws actually create murder."
Greene complained that guns in Chicago "are difficult to get."
"To carry a gun in Chicago, you need a firearm owner's ID and a concealed carry license," she said. "Most gun thefts occur in southern states, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, South Carolina."
"That's where most criminals steal guns," Greene added. "Why? Because we carry and we own guns, right?"
