230 Afghan Families Return from Pakistan

0

According to the Afghan Ministry of Refugees, 230 Afghan migrant families from Pakistan returned to their country on Sunday via the Torkham crossing, Nangarhar province.

The ministry also said that every family had received drinking water, biscuits, and the return fare and expenditure to their places from the IOM office.

According to the Nimruz province’s Directorate of Immigrants and Returnees Affairs, 64,115 Afghan migrants entered the country through the Nimruz crossing last month.

This comes after Amnesty International received recent complaints from Afghan refugees alleging harassment by Pakistani police.

The UNHCR in Islamabad urged the Pakistani government to stop arresting and expelling refugees after the recent arbitrary detention of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

Since the de facto authorities took control in August 2021, almost 1.5 million Afghan refugees have returned home, according to the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation of Afghanistan.

However, Pakistan’s number of Afghan refugees has increased significantly since the Taliban retook control in 2021, primarily for security and economic reasons.
