More tests to shed light on infant’s death

0

An autopsy carried out on Monday for an infant found unconscious in his cot did not reveal any findings over the cause of death.

Carried out by state pathologist Angeliki Papetta, samples were taken from the infant’s body which will be sent for histopathological, genetic and toxicological tests, police spokesman Charis Hadjiyiasemi told the Cyprus News Agency.

The tests are expected to shed light on the cause of death, he added.

The infant, who was six weeks old, was found unconscious in his cot by his parents in their Larnaca home on Sunday morning.

The last time they saw the baby alive was when the mother fed him and put him back to sleep around 2.30am.

An ambulance was called and the baby was pronounced dead upon arrival at Larnaca general hospital. No external injuries were found on the infant. Kofinou police continues investigations.
