'Total waste of time!': Trump hits out at DeSantis for copying immigration policies

Former President Donald Trump hit out at his strongest contender in the GOP field Monday by accusing Gov. Ron DeSantis of stealing his ideas.

DeSantis had toured part of the Texas border earlier in the before rolling out a tough-on-immigration national security plan.

His announcement echoed many ideas that Trump has supported, including ending catch and release of undocumented immigrants and building a border wall.

The similarities weren't lost on Trump.

"DeSanctimonious showed up today in Eagle Pass, on the Texas Border, with almost no crowd or excitement," he wrote on Truth Social.

"He is a failed candidate, whose sole purpose in making the trip was to reiterate the fact that he would do all of the things done by me in creating the strongest Border, by far, in U.S. history. A total waste of time!"
