Trump’s aide and alleged co-conspirator Walt Nauta readies for Tuesday arraignment
Donald Trump’s valet turned alleged co-conspirator Walt Nauta is scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment Tuesday, court documents show.
Nauta appeared with the former president at his June 13 court appearance, but the aide’s hearing was pushed back to June 27 because he hadn’t yet retained a local attorney.
Nauta was indicted on six counts including conspiracy to obstruct justice over allegations he lied to investigators in May 2022.
The loyal Trump aide started out as a White House valet and became known as the former president’s "Diet Coke valet” for fetching Trump’s favorite beverage.
Trump at his arraignment pleaded not guilty to all 37 counts in his criminal indictment over allegations he mishandled classified documents.
Nauta is scheduled to be appear at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday before Chief Magistrate Judge Edwin Torres.
Prosecutors allege Nauta lied when he told investigators that he didn’t know that boxes were brought to Trump’s residence for the former president to review before Trump handed over 15 boxes the National Archives, CNN reports.
According to the indictment, “When asked whether he knew where Trump’s boxes had been stored, before they were in Trump’s residence and whether they had been in a secure or locked location, Nauta falsely responded, ‘I wish, I wish I could tell you. I don’t know. I don’t – I honestly just don’t know.’”
