Stanley Fischer has had two careers: one as an academic, first at the University of Chicago and then at MIT, and the other as a policymaker—as chief economist of the World Bank, first deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, governor of the Bank of Israel, and, finally, vice chair of the Federal Reserve Board.
