It was a trip back in time when the legendary 80s band, Tears for Fears, performed a Saturday night concert in front of a very enthusiastic, packed house at Mohegan Sun Arena, in Uncasville, Conn.
Bath, England’s own Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, the original members, sang all their hits. Starting with “No Small Thing”, “The Tipping Point” and the mega-hit, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” The evening also included: “Sowing the Seeds of Love” and “Badman’s Song” followed.
They sounded as remarkably fresh and vibrant as ever, not missing a beat. Their music was enhanced by their tremendously talented backup singer, Lauren Evans, who showed her powerful voice on “Suffer the Children” and “Woman in Chains.” Almost the entire concert the vocal crowd was on their feet, dancing, clapping to the beat of the songs and towards the end, singing along to all the words especially to “Break it Down Again” and “Head over Heels” and finally “Shout”, during the encore. “The Tipping Point,” the title track off their most recent album, the first in 17 years, is also the name of the tour.
As a band of the 80s, you would expect an older crowd, but there was a large number of people in their 30s and 40s, a sign that their songs that played though the decades, had a popular resonance with various age groups. This band truly had the crowd in total participation and verse. Tears for Fears should pack houses through their tour if Mohegan Sun was any indication.
Cold War Kids, an Indie rock group from California, opened the show.
