LSU, Florida’s slight difference in odds suggest no one knows how an epic College World Series will end
Thus far, the College World Series Finals have been a perfect conclusion to college baseball’s pinnacle tournament.
In Game 1, LSU and “Tommy Tanks” survived a tense extra-innings duel to put itself on the brink of its first championship in over a decade. In Game 2, Florida opened the floodgates and then some to the tune of a 24-4 win. That same victory sets us up for a climactic showdown tonight in Omaha, where the winner can rightfully stand on top of college baseball.
And, based on the delicate tenor of the betting market, absolutely no one knows what to expect from a winner-take-all matchup. Right now, oddsmakers with DraftKings have painted LSU as a -150 favorite to finish the job. Though, Florida’s odds at +150 aren’t all that bad.
If anything, such a slight difference in prognosticative odds suggests a definitive outcome for the next College World Series champion is entirely up in the air.
I get it, and I don’t.
LSU has enjoyed the magical run to this stage, but Florida was a higher seed for a reason and blew out the Tigers accordingly to even this series up. I understand that it’s reasonable to see LSU responding like a champion to its humiliation, but I feel as if the line should be tilted more heavily in Florida’s favor.
But what do I know? The sheer unpredictability of baseball promises that Monday’s Game 3 should be nothing but controlled chaos.
