London Series: World Baseball Classic alum Paul Goldschmidt reaches five-country milestone

Paul Goldschmidt reached a milestone the past weekend when he became the first MLB player to play a regular season game in five different countries. Goldschmidt played the two London Series games for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Chicago Cubs.

The first baseman, considered one of the best in the game, is the reigning MLB MVP and has seven-time All-Star appearances, four-time Rawlings Gold Gloves and is a five-time Silver Slugger.

The first time Goldschmidt played an MLB regular season game outside the United States was in 2014 in Sydney, Australia. Defending Arizona Diamondbacks' first base in a two games series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In 2016, still as a Diamondbacks member, he played in Canada against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Goldschmidt was traded in 2018 to the St. Louis Cardinals. With the Cardinals, he played in a two-game series against the Cincinnati Reds in Monterrey, Mexico, to start the 2019 season.

The slugger completed the five countries cycle playing for the Cardinals in London in a two-game series against their classic rival, the Chicago Cubs.

Goldschmidt, a two-time USA Baseball National Team member, played with USA in the World Baseball Classic 2017 and 2023 editions, claiming a gold medal in 2017 and silver in 2023.
