Hunt for man who ‘raped’ woman on Bogor Regis beach as cops launch probe
POLICE are hunting a man after a woman was raped on a beach at a popular seaside resort.
Officers were scrambled to Bognor Regis in West Sussex in an early hours horror attack.
A woman reported being raped by a stranger while on the beach close to the Esplanade last Tuesday.
Sussex Police have now launched an investigation and are hunting the suspect.
He has been described as in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 5ft 10ins tall and of slim build, with light brown hair.
He was wearing a black t-shirt and grey jogging bottoms at the time of the horror.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Detectives investigating a rape in Bognor Regis are appealing for witnesses.
“It happened around 00.35am in an area off The Esplanade, between the junctions with Lennox Street and Clarence Road. The victim is being supported by specialist officers while the investigation is ongoing.
“Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, including anyone who may have seen any suspicious behaviour in the area around that time.”
Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting Operation Costa.
The horror comes after a spate of attacks on Bournemouth beach.
Two young girls aged ten and 11 claimed they were assaulted by a middle-aged man while out at sea.
Earlier this month, police said they were hunting for a group of men after a 17-year-old boy claimed he was also sexually assaulted in the sea.
While another teen, 19, is awaiting trial after a 15-year-old claimed he raped her in the sea in front of thousands of holidaymakers in Bournemouth.
