Popular comedian lands brand new game show for Channel 4 after string of cash-saving cuts
CHANNEL 4 is giving some lucky viewers the chance to grow their own fortune in a new telly contest.
Double Your Money will challenge members of the public to turn a small pot of “seed” cash into megabucks.
Former Great British Bake Off host Sue Perkins will play host as competitors dream up clever ways of boosting their coffers.
A TV insider said: “On the face of it, this might have a whiff of a daytime TV show where people try to make money from small ventures. But this show is a big prospect for Channel 4.
“That’s reflected in the fact that they’ve signed up someone as well known as Sue as the presenter.
“And bosses are raising viewers’ expectations too, describing it as ‘breaking the mould of traditional game shows’.”
Double Your Money sees pairs of contestants come together on day one to receive their modest starting fund.
And the moment they pocket the cash, the clock starts ticking.
Their mission will be clear — double the money within the hours that follow or face elimination from the game.
The duos are given complete freedom over how to spend their opening balance.
And contestants must devise smart strategies, bold hustles and ingenious ideas to turn their initial sum into a substantial fortune.
As the competition progresses, each round increases the cash target teams must achieve and extends the time they have to do it.
The pair that makes the most money by the allocated deadline will win a large cash prize to add to their final pot.
You’d almost think Channel 4 was rolling in it right now . . .
Lady in royals reveal
AS if The Crown hadn’t given the Royal Family enough to worry about, Palace insider Lady Anne Glenconner is set to turn her life story into a TV show.
She was the lady in waiting to Princess Margaret and her character appears in the Netflix drama, played by Nancy Carroll.
The toff was also a maid of honour for the late Queen Elizabeth II at her 1953 coronation.
And she introduced Her Majesty’s sister to the Caribbean island escape of Mystique where the princess partied with various men.
She said: “It’s exciting, but slightly worrying. Who is going to play one? It’s all under wraps.
“All my life I’ve really been invisible because I was just a girl. I was born feeling a disappointment.”
Wherever her show is aired I’m sure she will enjoy finally being in the limelight
Sharma shaker in the Dales
A FORMER EastEnder has joined rival soap Emmerdale in a shock recasting – and she quickly tears a beloved family apart.
Lin Blakley, who played Pam Coker in Albert Square until 2016, takes on the role of Georgia Sharma.
Trudie Goodwin originally portrayed the mum-of-three who went on a cruise in 2015 and never returned.
When she arrives back in the Dales, Georgia will ruffle feathers in the build up to her son Jai’s wedding to Laurel as she delivers some home truths.
Lin said: “How lucky am I to play such a strong character as Georgia.
“So different from roles I’ve played of late. I have enjoyed every single minute.”
