The Latest Phillies Injury Updates

  • Andrew Painter (right UCL sprain)
  • Status: 60-day MiLB injured list
  • Painter is finally graduating to multi-inning bullpen sessions. He is scheduled to throw a two-inning up-and-down bullpen session for the first time on June 30, Rob Thomson told reporters in Chicago. He previously threw a 30-pitch bullpen on Tuesday, June 27. The next step is throwing to hitters in live batting practice. Thomson said it will be “weeks” until that happens. (Last Updated June 28) — Destiny Lugardo

  • Noah Song (low back strain)
  • Status: MLB 60-day injured listScheduled to begin rehab assignment on June 29 in Clearwater.
  • Noah Song is expected to begin a rehab assignment on Thursday, June 29 with the Clearwater Threshers. The Threshers are away in Bradenton that day, meaning that Song’s first appearance will likely be available for fans to watch on MLB.tv via livestream. Thomson told reporters on June 28 that Song’s velocity is up since his return from injury, but not quite where it was before he left the sport to serve in the Navy. Starting Thursday, Song will be able to spend a maximum 30 days in the minor leagues on rehab assignment.
  • Song, a Rule 5 pick, has to spend at least 90 days on the Phillies active roster in order for the team to have the ability to option him to the minor leagues next year. A source told the Inquirer’s Scott Lauber that Song’s 90-day minimum stint on the active roster can spill over to next season. Once Song hits 90 days, he is eligible to be optioned to the minor leagues. If the Phillies bring him up to the majors and need to take him off the roster, Song will be placed on waivers. If he clears, the Phillies are required to offer him back to the Red Sox for $50,000. (Last Updated June 28) — Destiny Lugardo

Noah Song’s journey back to professional baseball adds layer of intrigue to Phillies camp

  • Seranthony Domínguez (left oblique strain)
  • Status: 15-day injured list
  • Seranthony Domínguez briefly played catch for the first time since going on the injured list before Sunday’s game against the Mets on June 25. He played catch again before Tuesday’s game against the Cubs. The Phillies initially thought he would be back once his 15-day injured list stint was up on July 1, but it’s going to take a little bit longer, but hopefully not too much longer. • Bryce Harper (recovering from Tommy John surgery)
  • Status: Back as DH, still building up as a thrower to be able to play in the field
  • Alex Coffey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Thursday, June 15 that Bryce Harper is just days away from throwing out from 105 feet. Rob Thomson said Harper is close to practicing fielding in the three-four hole and overhand throws to the pitcher. Harper is expected to be ready to play first base near the end of July. • Rhys Hoskins (torn ACL)
  • Status: 60-day injured list — Out for 7-9 months
  • The Phillies first baseman underwent successful surgery the morning of Thursday, March 30. The club officially announced that his recovery timeline is seven to nine months. Hoskins tore his ACL while trying to field a ground ball during spring training.
  • Hoskins checked in with reporters on June 7. He’s off crutches and is about two weeks away from being cleared to start jogging. It’s a lofty goal, but Hoskins is aiming to return to the lineup as a designated hitter at the beginning October for a potential playoff run. (Last Updated June 8) — Destiny Lugardo
