I’m a hair expert & you’re using dry shampoo wrong – it’s destroying your locks and the results could be devastating

SAVING us precious time and giving us a boost on off days, dry shampoo is hands down one of the best things invented.

But if it’s not used correctly, it can lead to hair loss, an Irish hair expert has warned.

Claire, who posts on TikTok under @truahair_, told how dry shampoo should be applied.

She said: “Dry shampoo should be behind a break glass unit.

“That’s the way you should use dry shampoo and none of you are using it correctly.”

The hair pro admitted dry shampoo can be “fantastic if it’s needed from time to time”.

She continued: “But if you think about all the natural stuff that you secrete from the body – the dead skin cells, sweat, oil, dry scalp dandruff.

“Then all the pollution, the dust from the house, the deodorant that you spray onto your armpit, all sorts right up on your scalp and then you pop a lot of dry shampoo on top of that as well.”

Claire explained it’s fine to use dry shampoo if you are washing it out the same evening.

She said: “It’s perfectly fine. I use dry shampoos, but I’m just really really careful about how I use it.

“It shouldn’t be used as a tool to not allow your scalp get oily.

“Your scalp has to get oily to be able to grow hair.”

She recommended using dry shampoos that have a more “natural base”.

The hair pro said: “A lot of them are full of talc. It really, really, really plays havoc with the scalp.

‘HAIR LOSS’

“And if you’ve got all of that build-up up there, of course your hair is going to be weaker when it comes out or it won’t come out at all.”

“But that’s one of the biggest causes of hair loss.

“We see it in teenage girls, in their early 20s as well, the over reliance on dry shampoo. So just be really, really careful.”

Claire recommended Martinsson King Invisible Cleanse dry shampoo which is really “good value” for a large can.

Or Davines Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo packed full of “natural ingredients”.

Claire added: “But even though they are the best of the best, they still need to be washed out that night as well.”
