1 dead, 45 injured as mini-bus overturns in Northern Afghanistan

On Wednesday, tragedy struck in northern Afghanistan’s Kunduz province as a mini-bus overturned, claiming the life of one individual and leaving 45 others injured.

Dr Ahmad Noor Omarzai, a medical professional at a local hospital, provided this information on Thursday, underscoring the gravity of the incident.

The road accident occurred in Imam Sahib District on a Wednesday evening. As a result, a child lost their life while 45 others, including women and children, sustained injuries, according to a health official.

The official further stated that some of the injured individuals, who have been transported to the hospital, are currently in critical condition.

Meanwhile, provincial police spokesperson Jumadin Khaksar confirmed the incident, stating that the unfortunate victims were en route to a wedding party when their mini-bus veered off the road, resulting in multiple injuries, mainly among children and women.

Although further details were not disclosed, the official announced the commencement of an investigation into the incident.

According to the experts, the deteriorating state of roads, coupled with reckless driving and inadequate safety measures on congested highways, appears to be the primary contributor to the country’s high rate of road accidents.

In addition, disturbingly, reports indicate that over the last three months alone, more than 400 individuals have lost their lives in these tragic incidents.
