Casualty star Kirsty Mitchell defends show as fans slam dark Faith storyline
CASUALTY star Kirsty Mitchell has hit back at fans after they complained about her dark drug addiction storyline.
In last night’s episode, Kirsty’s character Faith Cadogan lied about having cancer after she was caught stealing diazepam from the hospital.
Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) came across her stash in Faith’s locker and confronted her colleague about it.
In an attempt to cover up her drug problem, she said that she had Ovarian cancer and was using painkillers to cope.
Fans remembered that her own son Luka battled cancer.
“Let’s remember: Faith’s son, HER OWN SON, nearly died from cancer. And now she’s making it up for sympathy,” wrote one fan.
“Wow using cancer as an excuse for Faith’s lies and Stevie just accepts it as a doctor. I don’t like storylines that use cancer when a character doesn’t actually have it (I know it’s fictional). We just lost a friend a few weeks ago to ovarian cancer,” added another.
Kirsty decided to respond to the criticism, by tweeting: “I wanted to take a moment to address the recent storyline on #Casualty involving my character Faith,” she wrote.
“I understand that last night’s episode might have touched upon a delicate subject and may have caused concerns among some of you.
“It’s important to remember that the show’s creative team aims to spark conversations and shed light on various aspects of life, even when they’re uncomfortable.”
“Your support of Faith means the world to me. Please know that I’m just as eager as you are to see how her journey unfolds and how she navigates the challenges ahead. Thank you for being such incredible fans.”
“The portrayal is spot on, when you have an addiction like this you will stop at nothing to get what you want. Must be really hard to take that on but you’re smashing it!” one fan wrote.
“Your doing an amazing job with this storyline well done,” a second added.
