Gent manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck has said that while it is possible that Gift Orban could stay, he hinted that the club might have to cash in on the striker and reinvest the money into other areas of the squad.
Multiple publications over the last 24 hours have indicated that Tottenham are imminently expected to make a move for Orban after Harry Kane’s move to Bayern.
This included an update from CaughtOffside, who claimed on Sunday that Spurs are set to make a concrete move for the Gent star over the coming days.
This was also backed up by The Evening Standard, who stated on Monday morning that an offer from Spurs for Orban is expected to arrive sooner rather than later, with the North London club anticipating competition for the striker, who is valued at around £25m.
Orban has started the new campaign from where he left off last season, having found the back of the net five times in four appearances so far.
Gent may have to cash in on Spurs target Gift Orban
Vanhaezebrouck seemed to suggest Gent would need to sacrifice the Nigerian if they are to strengthen their squad enough to remain competitive during the upcoming season.
The Belgian club’s boss told Het Laatste Nieuws (as relayed by Foot News): “Is it impossible to keep Orban? No, it’s not impossible. He doesn’t have to leave and maybe he will stay. But I can’t project myself into the future”
“To say that we will go far if we keep Gift on board is not realistic. Our next opponent, Westerlo, has already bought for 13.5 million euros this summer. Ghent for 5 million. Westerlo has sold for 0 million, we sold for 12 million. That says it all. The landscape of football is changing.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Orban certainly knows where the back of the net is but the step up from the Belgian top flight to the Premier League is a considerable one and he will need a few months to get up to pace with English football if Tottenham do secure the 21-year-old’s signature.
