Map: Lightning fires prompt evacuation order west of Yreka

0

Lightning strikes sparked at least 19 wildfires in the Klamath National Forest, prompting an evacuation order for 325 square miles west of Yreka.

A report Tuesday night from the forest service’s fire managers described the situation as “extremely dynamic.”

The largest fire, Head, is near the confluence of the Klamath and Scott rivers, and was estimated Tuesday evening at 3,000 to 4,000 acres (5 to 6 square miles). It is just west of the scar of last summer’s McKinney Fire, which burned 60,000 acres and killed four people.

In addition to the mandatory evacuation, the Siskiyou County sheriff’s office has announced evacuation warning zones, and there are closures on Highway 96 and Scott River Road.

The map above shows the mandatory evacuation area in red. The Head Fire is indicated by the large fire icon. The red dots to the west are the Elliott, Malone and Titus fires, which were described as 5 to 50 acres and active on Tuesday evening. Orange dots indicate some of the smaller fires.

Updates and more details, including the boundaries of the warning area, can be found at:
