Former Sunrise host David Koch’s marriage update after show exit as he says he ‘feels like a new man’
FORMER Sunrise host David Koch has given an update on his life after leaving the show, saying he “feels like a new man”.
The 67-year-old appeared on 7 Network’s breakfast show Sunrise and The Morning Show on Wednesday to talk about his new role as the economic director for the price comparison site Compare the Market.
Koch, known as Kochie, said he wanted to help Aussies improve their financial health.
The popular star also revealed what life was like having left Sunrise.
He admitted he wasn’t missing the 3.30am starts for the show he hosted for 21 years, adding: “I feel like a new man”.
Although while he was enjoying the sleep-ins, he revealed that his wife, Libby, might not be quite so happy about him being home more.
He told Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington: “I’m not sure Lib is enjoying me being awake so late at night because it interrupts all of her shows.
“She still keeps the zapper and goes ‘Nick off! You can’t control that!’”
Kochie added that while he enjoyed “working business hours now,” he did miss his life in TV a little.
He told The Morning Show: “A bit of me does, but it was time to go and do something else.
“And I’m shooting a spotlight special in the next couple of weeks and keeping my hand in like that.”
Announcing his move to Compare the Market, the former financial journalist said: “Throughout my career I’ve been on a mission to help Australians manage their money better, to take the stress out of managing the household budget, and to enjoy life.
“That starts with the power of knowledge and understanding how to get a better deal by shopping around.”
He added: “So when the opportunity came up to help Compare the Market customers, it seemed like a really natural fit.
“People have been hit from every direction with soaring energy bills, insurance premiums and mortgage rates, and that’s forced many into tough financial decisions.
“We want to empower Australians to compare, to switch and save wherever savings are available.”
Koch announced he was leaving the show on May 28 this year, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family and manage the Port Adelaide Football Club.
He is Australia’s longest-serving breakfast TV host, having appeared in 5,300 shows.
On June 5 it was announced that Shirvington would be his replacement.
Koch’s last broadcast was on June 9.
