The cost of highway projects under India's Bharatmala programme has risen above initial estimates due to the construction of wider highways and tunnels, as well as more expensive land acquisition, top Roads Ministry official said. TThis programme was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) in July 2017.
