20 Car Entry For IMSA GT Challenge At VIR
VIRginia International Raceway will host the second GT-exclusive race of the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship next weekend. A field of 20 GTD and GTD Pro cars will contest the upcoming Michelin GT Challenge at VIR on 27 August, during a packed weekend of sportscar racing across the globe.
There are no great surprises in the field this time out: The #94 Andretti Autosport Aston Martin Vantage GT3 (Jarett Andretti/Gabby Chaves) returns for its third race, hoping to see the chequered flag for the first time after being involved in incidents at Laguna Seca and Lime Rock Park.
In GTD Pro, the #14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 of Jack Hawksworth and Ben Barnicoat leads the championship by 169 points, and a good result at VIR could put them in position to wrap up the series championship even before the season-ending Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Pfaff Motorsports returns as the defending GTD Pro race winner, the #9 Porsche 911 GT3 R of Klaus Bachler and Patrick Pilet will aim for a strong result.
The #1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 of Madison Snow and Bryan Sellers leads the GTD series championship by 205 points, and the WeatherTech Sprint Cup by 59 points. Russell Ward and Philip Ellis are the defending race winners, hoping to finally give the #57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 its first win of the season.
